Time Frame and Location: 240 years ago in the now defunct Provence of Gevaudan France (now Lozere/Auvergne area) the killings began again. The region has been populated longer then any other in France despite the harsh conditions. 71 years earlier a beast like La Bete had reportedly killed up to 200 people all women and children. Last reported killing by a La Bete like beast was 1954. Could La Bete return?
Terrain: Rugged-Volcanic; Killings began 12 miles North of Mt. Lozere. Location is characterized by Sharp rocks, rugged mountain faces, inhospitable climate, and boggy soil in lower regions. La Bete patrolled a wide territory about 40+ miles in diameter roughly triangular. There may have been more than one.
Motive: Saw humans particularly Women and Children as it main source of food. Over a three year period La bete killed 68 children, 25 women, and 6 men.
Style: Killed during the day or evening when it's favorite prey children were handy, sharp claws capable of removing heads, faces. La Bete killed swiftly and with extreme cunning. La Bete was an ambush predator and would evade capture by leading mounted horsemen into bogs. She could outrun the hounds they sent chasing after her.
